Sunglasses

Sunglasses are very important for the protection of your eyes, namely the Cornea which is where most light is filtered out, and the Macula which is where Macular Degeneration will manifest.

There are lots of different options for your sunglasses and here at Morris Eye Group. We use labs that will give you many tint options for different lifestyles, as well as polarized options.  Below is a list of the different lens types and their uses.

Polarized Lenses – Polarized lenses have a glare filter imbedded in the middle of the lens layers.  They come in different materials including polycarbonate for impact resistance and high-index for thin, lightweight options.  They are available in a variety of colors – including Brown, Green, Gray and Gradient Brown and Gray.  The glare filtration system in a polarized lens is great for cutting glare off of windshields and the water.  Polarization will provide the most protection and the most benefit for your eyes and your peace of mind.

Tinted brown lenses – Brown and amber lenses are great for very sunny conditions as well as fishing, water sports and golf.  The amber lens works as a great contrast designed to help you see certain colors both under the water and on the green.  They also work well in slightly overcast conditions.

Tinted Green – Green lenses – or as known by Rayban, G15 – are also great for sunny conditions and most outdoor or leisure activities.  It is a good color option for those who spend a lot of time outside doing activities such as cycling or mountain biking.  It is also a great alternative to polarized lenses for those who fly planes and helicopters as airplane windows are already polarized and do not work with polarized sunglasses.

Tinted Gray/Black lenses – Grey lenses are recommended for extra bright conditions – such as skiing (especially if they are polarized) and viewing sporting events in the bright sun.  People with a leisurely lifestyle who enjoy a variety of outdoor activities are good candidates for Gray and darkly tinted black lenses.

Tinted Yellow lenses – Yellow lenses are recommended for specified activities such as Tennis, shooting and computers or gaming.  The reason why is due to the contrast in color that the yellow lens provides when zeroing in on an object.  Tennis balls, gaming objects and shooting targets are all easier to see with a yellow lens.
