The ORA System with Verifeye Technology
Prior to cataract surgery specific measurements are needed to help the surgeon pick out the power of the implant needed for the patient. Measurements are taken while the patient still has a cataract inside the eye. Sometimes, due to the cataract, the power of the implant can be off. We now have a way to confirm the power of the IOL once placed inside the eye. After the surgeon removes the cataract the Verifeye (a.k.a. ORA) will recalculate measurements of the eye and either validate the power of the implant selected or recommend a different power. If the Verifeye comes back with a different calculation the surgeon can change the power of the implant at the time of surgery helping to decrease the risk of needing to re-operate.
Femto Laser Preparation for Cataract Surgery
Morris Eye Group now has a precision laser to help prepare our patients undergoing cataract surgery. Our laser center uses the Bausch & Lomb Victus® Femtosecond Laser. Use of the laser prior to cataract surgery allows the cataract surgeon to perform cataract surgery that is precise, predictable, reproducible, and with few complications.
In addition, the laser performs astigmatism correction, allowing for better vision with less dependence on glasses. All of these steps are performed quickly, painlessly, and with precision. Your doctor will discuss using the laser to help prepare your eye for cataract surgery.
The Bausch & Lomb Victus® Femtosecond Laser is the first step in preparing many of our patients for cataract removal. The laser The laser prepares the patient for cataract surgery resulting in fewer complications. Remarkably, all of this can be done without cutting open the eye.
If you choose Laser Preparation for Cataract Surgery, you will first be prepared with our Laser at the San Diego Laser Cataract Center using the Victus® laser. The Laser Center is adjacent to the Surgi-Center where your cataract surgery will take place following the laser preparation phase. Remarkably, laser preparation occurs without actually opening a wound into the eye and thus does not expose patients to infection during this phase. After laser preparation, you will be taken to the surgical suite in the Surgi-Center where the cataract surgeon will remove the clouded lens and implant your new implant or IOL.
The Victus® Cataract Laser achieves the following:
- Creates surgical openings in the cornea without the use of blades
- Creates a perfectly round capsular opening without the inherent risks of human error
- Softens the cataractous lens and makes removal more efficient by the cataract surgeon
- Creates a perfect opening in the tissue envelope into which the cataract surgeon implants the intraocular lens. This is a critical step in cataract surgery. The laser reduces the risks associated with a surgeon-made incisional opening. Perfectly-round openings make centration of the implanted lens much more likely.
- More precisely treats astigmatism than manual surgical correction so that results are optimized. Clarity of vision is dependent on perfectly eliminating astigmatism from the eye.
With the advancement of our lifestyle implants along with the Victus® Cataract Laser your options could never be better than now.
