Vision Solutions: 18 & under

Dr. Sara fits a patient for glassesMorris Eye Group offers a wide selection of options to help those under the age of 18 see well. In a young person, most vision problems are due to the eye’s inability to focus an image onto the retina properly. There are three main reasons a young person may suffer from a refractive error:

1. Myopia (nearsightedness) & correcting for distance: Persons with myopia have a harder time seeing objects in the distance but can usually see up close.
2. Hyperopia: (farsightedness): Persons with hyperopia can see objects in the distance but not up close.
3. Astigmatism: A person with astigmatism usually sees blurred objects due to the shape of their eye. A person with astigmatism has an eye shaped like a football which elongates images. A person with no astigmatism has an eye that is shaped like a basketball. It is possible, and common, to have astigmatism and be nearsighted or farsighted.

At Morris Eye Group, we take the utmost care in treating all patients. We highly recommend annual eye exams, especially for youth under the age of 18. We strongly believe in preventive eye care. At Morris Eye Group we not only see patients for vision exams but also do testing for the health of the eye. When a child is seen for exams, often times eye conditions are discovered at this visit which otherwise would not be found and if discovered at a young age there may be treatments for prevention or further development. However, the most common reason a young person is seen for an eye exam is to help diagnose and prescribe a prescription for glasses or contact lenses.

There are two main ways for a person under the age of 18 to correct there vision.
