Okay, but what is that?

While this substance may seem completely foreign and many choose to reject the unfamiliar, hyaluronic acid is actually found in skin, muscles, and tendons naturally. In fact, hyaluronic acid is a major component of skin and is essential in natural tissue repair. For example, when skin is exposed to excessive amounts of harmful UV rays, skin cells become inflamed and are slow to produce hyaluronic acid which can, over time, result in wrinkles. A decrease in hyaluronic acid production, therefore, can result in a lack of elasticity.

Glaucoma causes damage to the optic nerve inside the eye, usually from high eye pressure, which leads to permanent loss of peripheral vision.  Testing eye pressure is part of every eye examination and should be done every year. The earlier glaucoma is detected and treated the better the outcome in preserving vision. The standard, first line treatment for glaucoma has been to prescribe eye drops to lower the pressure in the eyes.

Unfortunately, using daily eye drops has some disadvantages. There are those that forget to use them, those that can’t afford them and those that, for various reasons (including allergic reactions, dry eyes, and an inability to instill the drops correctly) do not do well with this treatment regimen.
